This style of work out actually reverses the aging process. It’s called High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). We have known for a while now that it is one of the most effective ways to burn calories and lose weight. But this is the first time HIIT has been shown to slow down or even reverse the ageing process.
People who do HIIT – style work outs are amazed at how much better and full of energy they feel with just 10 or 20 minutes of this style of exercise.
Research under taken by the Mayo clinic has found it is the fastest and best way to keep every cell in the body young. It is so effective because it actually changes the cells and the way they function. HIIT – style workout compared with other forms produced a 69% increase in mitochondrial capacity for participants over age 65, and a 49% increase in mitochondrial capacity for younger participants aged 18-30.
The mitochondria is an area inside the cells referred to as the “powerhouse” of the cell. Its function is to take in nutrients, break them down, and turn them into energy. As we age our mitochondria naturally slow down and so do we as a result.
Most age-related disorders can be traced back to mitochondria function slowing down or stopping. So the fountain of youth would be achieved if there was a way we could keep the mitochondria functioning properly, and that’s just what this exciting Mayo Clinic study reveals.
